MDT Driver Import with PowerShell
Files posted on SkyDrive
The original script comes from Johan Arwidmark’s Deployment Research Blog, but for someone without much knowledge about PowerShell, it takes a bit of tweaking. So while I use this script frequently, I thought I would add comments to the script so it would be easier to customize.
You start out with a Driver Import directory. Since we are using Dell systems in our Enterprise, I grab all the CAB files that I need from Dell Driver CAB files for Enterprise Client OS Deployment. I then extract the CAB contents and place them in my Driver Import directory.
It is important to keep track of how many levels get imported, to know which level is what is important. This needs to be consistent.
In my example above, I have 6 Levels, with the 6th Level the one I want to import. So my PowerShell Script needs to be formatted to create directories for Levels 1-5, and create and import the 6th Level. It will make sense when you view the script.
I recommend running the script in PowerShell ISE as I have found running straight in PowerShell may sometimes exit for no reason (I will try to enable logging and find out, but the workaround is simple enough). The script will only import drivers that are needed, and copy entries for duplicates. After running the import, your MDT Structure will be identical to the Import Directory Structure.
With further customization, the script can be adapted to any Driver Structure . . . even Total Control “Extreme”
Jennifer’s Wedding in Lightroom 3
Picasa Photo Gallery
After spending some time in Adobe Lightroom 3, and seeing the amazing results, I am a firm believer that all Photographers (Pro or otherwise) should be shooting pictures in RAW (forget JPG) and doing some post processing. So I have made the switch to shooting NEF (Nikon’s RAW) on my D700, and the results are nothing short of phenomenal. The grain can be removed, the white balance is perfect, and when it isn’t, it is easily corrected.
Think about how important your photos are and how long you want to keep them. Are they snapshots or something more than that. Ask your photographer to shoot RAW just to be sure
And one more thing, the second pic has the before and after mixed up. Click on the photos to enlarge them to judge for yourself
Baby Zach in Adobe Lightroom
I played around a bit in Adobe Lightroom and came out with some nice soft effects. These pictures are from my little experiment.
I had these pictures printed up from Walgreens in 4×6, but Aaron took them all back with him to Seattle . . .
Waiting for Snow Leopard
Well I am waiting for my Apple Snow Leopard disc to come in today from Apple so I can do a clean install tonight. Last night I started a backup of my 13″ MacBook Pro to an external drive. Having about 440GB of data to back up takes a long time! I checked this morning before I went to work and it was still backing up!
Anyway, it should be done by now. Hopefully all will run smooth and I will be able to have it ready for me to take when I go out of town tomorrow to visit Dell in Austin, TX.
